Server log files
When you visit the website, the server processes technically necessary data. This may include your IP address, the date and time of the request, the requested address, the volume of data transferred, the HTTP status code, referrer URL, and information about the browser and operating system used.
Processing is necessary to deliver the website securely and reliably, diagnose errors and defend against misuse. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. The data are retained for 7 days and then deleted or anonymised unless longer retention is required to investigate a security incident.
Technical functions and API requests
The maps, statistics and search functions retrieve data solely through the TaxMap API on the same domain. The technical connection data required for each request are processed. There are no user accounts, contact forms or transfers of map data to an embedded third-party map service.
Local browser storage
TaxMap stores your selected German tax-rate display under the key taxmap.rate-display-mode in your browser's local storage. The value is used only to restore the selected display on a later visit and is not transmitted to TaxMap.
TaxMap uses no cookies or advertising networks.
Audience measurement with Plausible Analytics
TaxMap uses Plausible Analytics by Plausible Insights OÜ, Estonia, to analyse website use in aggregate and improve the service. The tracker sends data to Plausible's endpoint at plausible.io.
It records pageviews, the visited URL including its path, referrer, browser, operating system, device type, approximate country, region and city location, and engagement information such as visit duration and scroll depth. Because outbound-link tracking is enabled, a click on an external link also records its destination URL as an event. No custom events, user identifiers or additional properties are sent.
According to Plausible, the measurement uses no cookies, persistent identifiers or local storage. To count unique visits each day, the IP address and User-Agent are used briefly to create a hash with a daily rotating salt; raw values are not stored. Processing serves the legitimate interest in measuring and improving the service and is based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR.
Plausible processes analytics data as TaxMap's processor. According to Plausible, the data are processed and stored within the EU. The retention period is 24h.
External links
The website links to official data sources and other external websites. When you click an external link, Plausible Analytics records the event and its destination URL as described above. The target website's own privacy policy applies to your use of that site.
Contact by email
If you contact us by email, the data you provide are processed to handle your request. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(b) GDPR where your request concerns a contract and otherwise Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. The data are deleted once the request has been fully handled unless statutory retention obligations require otherwise.
Recipients and transfers to third countries
Only people and technical service providers who need access to operate, secure or maintain TaxMap receive personal data. Plausible Insights OÜ processes the analytics data described above as a processor. According to Plausible, visitor data remain within the EU; the website does not currently provide for transfers of personal data to third countries.
Your rights
Subject to the GDPR, you have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and to object to processing based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. You may also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. No automated decision-making, including profiling, takes place.
Changes to this policy
This privacy policy will be updated when TaxMap's technical functions, Plausible configuration or data processing change. It will be revised in particular before additional analytics or advertising services are introduced.
